Moving: The Saga Continues

And a saga it is.

So we found a cool space at 1344 S. Flores St. It’s a very thoughtfully renovated old tractor suppl company. Upside is that it has ceilings! Downside is that it doesn’t have a bathroom but the real estate guys assured us that one one would be put in. Groovy!

We submitted our Letter of Intent (the first salvo in the leasing battle.) We didn’t hear, didn’t hear from the landlord and then…they countered with a long lease term and higher rent cuz “they have to put in a bathroom.” Meaning we would be paying for it. But, the space can’t be leased or get a Certificate of Occupancy with out it. So, limbo city.

On the bright side is that John and Stacy from the Filling Station will be the new leaseholders at 108 King William! The are looking forward to a larger operation. And they will let us stash some stuff here while they renovate.

And in between 108 King William and the new space our friend Gina at Madhatters has agreed to sublease a small building at the corner of Beauregard and S. Alamo St. It will be a smaller, temporary home until the(a) larger space becomes available.

That’s all for now!

Potential New “Homes”

[ADDED Finesilver Building pictures - 3/7/2011]

We’ve been looking around for new spaces and we have set a moving day — April 2. Mark your calendars! We’ll be looking for many good coworkers to get us moved out and moved in, all in exchange for pizza and beverages.

Calley, Stacey, Todd and Debbie went out this morning and looked at four possibilities. (We nixed one because of the work involved to get it up to coworking speed.)

  • 1344 S. Flores
  • 1617 E Commerce (The Friedrich Building)
  • 107 Blue Star

And earlier in the month we looked at…

  • 707 E. Quincy

We may also looked at the Finesilver Building. (Todd, Debbie, Calley, Stacey, Deanne, Becca, Andrew, Manny, Patti). See photos below.

We need to whittle these down to two choices so we can make a decision by the end of next week. That will give us enough time to get the paperwork and logisitics for the move out of the way.

Check out the photo sets below and let us know what you think.

Some Nice Words and a Video

Bruce Eric Anderson (@bruceericatdell) visited us at the beginning of August to get some work done while his family was out to play at SeaWorld. Bruce is a blogger at DigitalNomads (@digital_nomads), a community site for individuals that work or play without regard for their physical location Powered by Dell.

We were included in his first anniversary post, One Year of Digital Nomads, for Digital Nomads which we consider quite an honor. He wrote some very kind words about us…

Asked what my ideal workspace would look like today and I?d describe a workspace with no walls, large open-air spaces with lots of open tables for impromptu meetings and team collaboration. I?d also be listening to Nature Sounds Radio on Pandora in a set of noise canceling headphones to block out the ?loud laughers? that invariably would find me where ever I sat.

It would look very much like a place I worked out of a few weeks ago while spending some time in San Antonio with my family.

And Bruce shot a video of Todd giving a tour. Check it out!

Thanks Bruce!

[Note to self: Begin diet today.]

Our 5 Seconds of Fame

Geomedia Creative Civilization Express-News Spot

Coming soon to a television screen near you is C4Workspace’s broadcast debut.

Our lounge area was used for a segment of an upcoming San Antonio Express-News commercial spot. The spot was shot by Geomedia for their client Creative Civilization. Here are some snaps of the “making of”.

For you production geeks, the spot was shot with a RED camera and the images were stunning.

So, while you’re flipping through the channels watch for the young professional woman reading a newspaper in a very cool looking blue office. That’s  us!

Wait for it…wait for it…aww, you missed it!

Take a Look See!

Andrew has worked  up a couple of renderings of the finished space.

This first one is from the front door looking across the front lounge to the Conference Room.

This one is from about halfway back in the community space toward the kitchen and bar. One of the offices is to the right.

Andrew has done a great job on the designs. Now that the floor and walls are patched we can get going on painting and constructing. The front of the bar you see above is already framed and we’re getting ready to start painting the ceiling and texturing the walls.

Hey. Can you swing a hammer or wield a paint brush? We could use a hand!

I’m just saying.

What Will C4 Workspace Look Like?

We’ve been working with Andrew Guajardo at GA Architects on how our space will be laid out at C4 Workspace. We held a charette a couple of weeks ago. Andrew had collected our priorities for what we wanted in the space beforehand. At the charette he presented some drawings he had worked up and then he gave us some tracing paper and we scribbled changes and ideas.

Overall a good collaborative session that helped us define the space and ultimately raised more questions about the overall direction.

Here’s a rough drawing of the outcome of tha process. What do you think?
