How will we be working? Where? What will that space look like? Who will be around us? Will anything be different?

This first C4 Workspace Lunchtime Learning Series session will look at tomorrow’s work styles, tomorrow’s workers and tomorrow’s workplace. Our three speakers will present and discuss the opportunities that the Future of Work will bring.

Clay Spinuzzi, Ph.D.

How Adhocracies Fit into the Future of Work

Clay will explore the world of kinetic organizations, new relationships and organizational forms and the “third place.”

Clay is an associate professor of rhetoric at The University of Texas at Austin.

Gina Schmidt

Harder Working Spaces

Gina will look at the key issues that businesses face today: enabling collaboration and teamwork, attracting and retaining the right talent, using the workplace as tool to build brand and reflect organizational culture.

Gina is a Workspace Consultant with Steelcase and a graduate of UTSA.

Todd O’Neill

It’s a Movement!: Coworking Around the World

Since 2005 coworking has grown from 0 to 600 space worldwide. Todd will look at what it is about this work style that appeals to so many people around the world.

Todd is the catalyst behind C4 Workspace, San Antonio’s first coworking space.

The BIG thinkers at C4 came up with a new idea and gave it the name “SMARTEES”. It’s really two ideas, branded as SMARTEES.

How it Works

Seminars and workshops are a great way to use your knowledge to provide value to people (read: grow your business) It shows that you’re an “expert” in your field. The SMARTEE program helps brand you as that expert. And FREE space keeps your costs to a minimum. But it’s only for C4 Workspace members.

Members can host either one 2 hour seminar or one 4-6 hour workshop each month.

  • Create your topic
  • Schedule the event 4 weeks in advance
  • Determine time slot; lunch, evening, weekend, etc.
  • Put together an outline and description for promotion
  • Get a C4 Workspace logo to include in your marketing
  • Invite members, clients, prospects, and the community.

  • Plan sessions to be interactive
  • Make handouts valuable

Pink Slip Mixer on WOAI, Wednesday!

Regina Villalobos, our genius PR goddess, got us booked on San Antonio Living this Wednesday at around 9:15 am. Watch for Todd talking the Pink Slip Mixer Talk and walking the coworking walk.

In case you missed it we’re having our second Pink Slip Mixer here at the space on Thursday, February 4 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. It’s a networking event for mid-level and professional job seekers and recruiters and HR staffers.

Our first event was a great success with good feedback from both the candidates and the hiring type people. We’re looking forward to more of the same.

Pink Slip Mixer

C4 Workspace and a bunch of others are hosting a Pink Slip Mixer on Thursday, September 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm to help connect under employed professionals with the companies and agencies who may have opportunities for them.

What’s a Pink Slip Mixer?

Pink Slip Mixers had their start when Wall Street got clobbered in the fall of 2008. Frankly, their soirees were more about drwoning their sorrows than connecting with the right people.

The Pink Slip Mixer is a non-threatening, social event. It is not a job fair. It is not for entry level people. The event is for for mid level, experienced professionals who have gotten the short end of the economy’s stick. And it’s for people in a position to hire the aforementioned professionals to meet and mingle with them outside a sterile interview or [shudder] The Job Fair.

We currently have 2 search firms lined up and are talking with two others as well as a few corporate HR departments.

The evening will start at 6 pm with sign in, name tag affixing, wrist banding and door prize ticket acquisition. It will run through 8 pm with breaks to give out door prizes. In between it’s all about talking with people. People looking for work and people looking for good employees and contractors. There will be snacks and refreshments throughout the evening. And attendees will have a chance to get a professional profile picture taken to flesh out their online profiles on sites like LinkedIn.

This Pink Slip event is right in line with our mission here at C4 Workspace. We’re all about a sustainable professional community. Sustainability starts at home with bringing home the bacon (or soy substitute). We know not everyone is cut out for running a solo business and not all solo’s are cut out to work in traditional office environment. But we all gotta cowork in some fashion. So Pink Slip brings together San Antonio’s professional community to work together and network.  And that’s what C4 Workspace is all about.
